Massage - More Than Just A Way To Relax
Massage is one of the world's oldest health care treatments. It benefits for general wellness are well known, and well documented. Everyone can benefit from massage therapy.
Research studies have documented that massage therapy has an impressive range of physical, mental, and emotional benefits.Records show that 90% of all visits to health care providers are for stress-related complaints. Therapeutic massage has an amazing effect on your body's nervous system, helping to reverse your body's response to stress, by relaxing muscle tension and reducing your heart rate, blood pressure and circulation to a normal rate.
Receiving regular massage can help improve nerve function by relaxing contracted muscles that press on or pinch your nerves causing tingling, numbness, or pain. Sensory receptors in the skin and muscles "wake up" bringing new awareness to areas that have felt cut-off by chronic tension patterns.
Muscles can become tight for many reasons: stress, injury even from childhood accidents, poor circulation, overuse, and misuse, can all cause you pain and discomfort as well as restrict your normal range of motion. Massage therapy stretches and lessens tight muscles and connective tissue by breaking down and preventing the further formation of adhesions (scar tissue). This will increase the range of motion in your limbs and back.
Massage therapy can activate nerve receptor signals along nerve fibers to temporarily block chronic pain signals from reaching the brain. Then endorphins, the body's natural painkiller, are released into the brain and nervous system to reduce your feelings of pain and discomfort without the use of prescription drugs.
Massage can improve your sleep. Tension caused by everyday stress can emotionally drain you, preventing you from coping with everyday life. A disruption of your sleep pattern can leave you tired and irritable. Therapeutic massage relaxes your tense muscles and calms your nervous system, causing your body's rhythm to slow down. As your body slows down, your blood pressure decreases, your heart rate settles, and your breath becomes deeper and more rhythmic, increasing your chances for a perfect night's sleep. Remember, we only receive one body, so we have to take care of it. Here is a list of the many benefits of Therapeutic Massage:
